Mechanical is a highly interest-specific branch. You see, only if you are interested in all such stuff, automobiles, machinery etc., you should opt mechanical. The subjects are really tough. But of course mechanical has the widest scope out of all of them. Government jobs, Public sector units, GATE, IES, private companies and much more. Second preference could be instrumentation since it is a highly developing and rising branch with a lot of opportunities.

You should opt for mechanical engineering. It has better scope as compared to production and instrumentation branches.
