More than which field you study, what you do outside the field in your free time matters. Hence for a good career, you require a very good portfolio. Portfolio encompasses all your projects and things you've worked on. Companies offer you internships and jobs based on that. So the choice of field is just a tool to help you develop skills you require for doing that kind of a job. Plus, graphic design or animation, both come under the Visual Communications Degree so really either can help you get to the same place.
