Let me make things easy for you: In mechanical engineering you will be learning: Machine drawing, Manufacturing methods, Design of machine components, Kinematics of machines, Dynamics of machines, Thermodynamics, Applied thermodynamics, Heat and mass transfer, Rapid prototype manufacturing, Control engineering, Industrial engineering, Quality assurance, Reliability engineering, Operations research, Operations management, Supply chain management,CAD/CAM, Nano technology, Mechatronics,Theory of machines, Turbo machines, Theory of plasticity, Theory of elasticity, Foundry technology, Financial management, Photo lithographic process, Sputtering technique, Limits and tolerances, Machine tools, etc. In civil engineering you will be learning: Building drawing, structural engineering,Foundation engineering, survey engineering, Dam engineering, Bridge engineering,Geology,Theory of super structures, High way engineering, etc. Therefore, both the branches are unique by it self. It only depends on your interest, and now the choice is yours. Good Luck!

Answering a question like this is quite difficult, as no branch is better than the other rather it depends on you. If you are fond of studying dynamics, engines, cars and all, mechanical is better but if you like buildings, infrastructure, and massive bridges, then civil will be best. It definitely depends largely on market demands as there are equal scope for both the branches. But, if you talk of government sectors civil engineers are more in demand so here, civil is better.
