We can't compare the two colleges which are very different from each other in many aspects. The admission process, fee, and academics. But giving it a try, IIT BHU is a very old institution and it has been offering the course since 1919, the department is well-established and reputed. Mechanical is a core branch, which also favors it. BITS has its own reputation, there is not much difference. You can go for anyone, both are equivalent in my view. If you are interested in the IIT tag, join IIT BHU.
