Jaipur National University offers both B.Sc. in biotechnology and B.Sc. in microbiology: B.Sc. (Hons.). Biotechnology is a three-year degree programme. In the first two semesters, the focus is on the core subjects of biotechnology to ensure a good grounding in the fundamental concepts. Specialisation is offered in the second and third year. The course contents cover all aspects of the applied and core biotechnology including molecular biology, genetic engineering, plant and animal tissue culture, bioprocess technology, advanced microbial technology, intellectual property rights and patents, industry relations and entrepreneurship, etc. Duration: 3 Years Eligibility: 10+2 Science (Biology/ Maths/ Agriculture/ Biotech or Equivalent) Selection Procedure: Merit and Interview Recent trends from the industry focus on the production of totally new eukaryotic compounds like insulin, interferon and other recombinant products, using microorganisms in large quantities. Biofuels like bioethanol and biodiesel are being manufactured using new raw materials like lignocellulosics. Algae and other biomass material are considered as an alternative to fossil fuels. Many new recombinant vaccines are produced to replace crude vaccines and make them polyvalent to reduce the dosage. Duration: 3 Years Eligibility: 10+2 Sciences (Biology / Maths/ Agriculture/ Biotech or Equivalent) minimum 45% marks at 10+2 level or equivalent with English as compulsory Subject Selection Procedure: Merit and Interview I hope now you can choose easily.

Both biotech and microbiology are allied fields of life sciences with different specialisations. B.Sc microbiology makes one eligible for almost all subject specialisation in M.Sc whereas biotech will be eligible for few fields in M.Sc . If higher studies is on your mind B.Sc microbiology would be better comparatively just for the avenues it open further.
