I think Thapar University is the best option because it offers admission through JEE Mains score when compared to LPU. And it also provides opportunities to students to get the training of one year in foreign countries.

I think, Thapar Institute is better in terms of placements and infrastructure. An institute whose student accommodation has recently been awarded for best infrastructure ought to be good in civil engineering. Keeping that aside as well, I know many people who pursued their Civil engineering. From TIET and are placed with reputed organizations.

LPU gives you the good opportunity for B.Tech placements are also better here as many companies visit the campus also best infrastructure. Although check about other colleges if you wish for much more.

See, it would be unjustified to compare these two educational institutes. The reason is that Thapar University is a very old organisation and is best in the region. On the other side, LPU is 15 years old and is persevering to achieve its goal of "transforming education and transforming India". So, without defaming or comparing with other good institutes, we would like to highlight following points about LPU. 1) Curriculum Innovation: Curriculum for all disciplines is revised after every six months. LPU curriculum surpasses the requirements of regulatory bodies. It is benchmarked with some of the best universities of the world, but continues to retain its uniqueness and innovativeness. 2) Live Projects : From development of applications to wonderful innovations like Quadcopter, Gesture controlled wheelchair, Autonomous Rover etc., our education system is dedicatedly converting the brick and mortar classroom to outcome based learning 3) Industry Immersion: On-site experience has been gained by the students through industry internships in corporate giants like Cognizant, Microsoft, Infosys, ABB, ISRO, Simplex to name a few. LPU has collaborated with top industries like Google, Microsoft, CISCO, Oracle, Cadence etc. to provide industry immersions. For example, LPU has signed an MOU with ORACLE INDIA PVT. Ltd., the Database Giant for the Cloud Solutions. 4) Guest Lectures and Workshops: Various lectures and workshops have been held in the university. Many elite and erudite personalities from all over the world have enlightened our students with their profound academic and industrial experience. 5) Placement: LPU provides ample opportunities to each and every eligible students to secure good placement. The university has been ranked high by outer agencies also with regard to placements of our students.

Thapar University is a far better option for doing engineering over LPU because of its legacy and brand value.
