The career choice you make depend on the following: 1. Short term goals (5 years) 2. Long term goals (> 5 years) 3. General aptitude and interest In India, B.Tech in Computer Science or IT remains the most common way to get into a lucrative career in the long run. But, if you do a deep dive, B.Tech is just one of the many options one can pursue after school. B.Sc in computer science is a great option assisting you in getting a theoretical knowledge of the subject. Those interested in more practical aspects of IT/Computers should option for BCA or Bachelors in Computer Application. To further beat competition, one may do certifications like the CCNA, Java and Python. There is a lot of emphasis on data mining and Fintech (Blockchain as a use case). So, doing something on these emerging fields makes it easier to find a job. In India, these IT fields are much stagnated nowadays and there are layoffs owing to automation, hence one need to be vigilant and try to get into roles which won't be impacted by the automation storm.
