MBA specialization should be chosen keeping the post-MBA career in mind. While it helps to connect the pre-MBA and post-MBA careers, you can look forward to switch industries (many people get an MBA for this sole reason) and roles after an MBA. There will always be a set of transferable skills that you possess (and will develop and hone others too during MBA) that will help you in transitioning. Some of the specializations which you can look after are: 1) Systems Management: If you are software savvy. There are some mechanics who like software a lot. 2) Operations: Remember the subject we normally study in the last semester. It’s called Industrial Management/ Engineering or Production Management. It’s all about inventory, break-even, PERT CPM and Supply Chain. This one is BEST for mechanics. A know a couple of people who went abroad to study these in pursuit of fat-cash. 3) Marketing: Can you sell? If yes that's it. All mechanical companies need to SELL. And nobody knows a Car or any engineering product better than a mechanical engineer (speaking from a general view). But honestly, it does not matter whether you are from mechanical or CSE or any other branch, it won’t matter while you are doing your MBA.It really depends on where your interest lies.

Hi I would say that there is no specific specialization that you need to choose in MBA, as per your background. Personally, I have always felt that as an MBA student you need to diversify your field of knowledge and not just stick to one domain. As a manager, though you may have a specific expertise, you also need to be a jack of all trades. However, if you are not the one to take a risk and follow a unique path, you could follow the norm and take up specialization related to operation or system. These are the usual options that technical background students take up in MBA. However, I would like to point out that technicals candidates are required in all fields, including marketing finance and HR. If you are a technical graduate then you must go for either marketing, IT, IB, operation, logistics & supply chain, etc There are no restrictions, you can choose any streams available but these will have an impact if you are having a technical background. Operation- Many institutes prefer only B.Tech graduate for admission not any other. Logistics & Supply chain-This sector is over manufacturing sector. It covers many areas like manufacturing, procurement, transportation, warehousing, etc. so a technical graduate will have an edge over another graduate. IT- Well as the name suggests, only tech. graduates are allowed to pursue this special course focused on changing IT industry. Marketing- It is an evergreen branch and anyone can pursue it. It is the highest demanding course with largely available opportunities for any graduate pursuing it. Finance- If you are good in numbers and have good analytics skills then you will have an edge over others for sure. All the best!
