It will definitely affect you. Though it is too difficult to say adversely or at a junior level. This will definitely depend upon your own performance and practice, however, the questions asked in engineering entrances are related to the three major subjects and mostly from the English part. A particular subject is required for getting into the institutes or getting into the board exams. This is decided by how you have prepared your exams. If the preparations are far on board level then try to link your board preparations to your Advance. The moral of the story is to analyze the situation in the best possible way and with the whole self-honesty as one cannot expect to have fake facts at that point of level.

Firstly, be true to yourself whenever you appear for any of the placements, job interview. Students usually take a gap after 12th to deeply prepare for their entrance exams like IIT, PMT, CLAT, BMS, etc. Students take a gap year and improve their score in search for a better institution. Don't think at all that this is going to affect your placements. Even students who fail in graduation years are considered for placements, So this thing should not affect your level of confidence at any stage. You might get a question from the interviewer that why you took a gap year after 12th, just give a genuine reply that why you actually took a gap year, is it because you were preparing for exams or you were ill, you were not sure which course to choose or any XYZ reason for which you took a gap year. A gap year after 12th is not at all hindrance in any of the placements. You can also take up Internship Opportunities and volunteer experience as well brush up with some technical courses so gap becomes fully redundant.

An easy interpretation to your question would be, you must have appeared for your board exam this year and wish to join an engineering college/university, but you couldn't clear one or more subjects in your board exams this year. If that's what you're asking, let me be honest with you. You'll have to clear the exam(s) you've failed in, to get into any engineering college or any university/institute affiliated to AICTE for that matter. All engineering colleges will check for your credentials before you take your admission. You should be clearing class 10 and class 12 (or) class 10 and Diploma to get into any engineering branch. However, I have a solution to your problem. Ideally, class 12 board exams will be held in the month of March every year and you'll be getting the results in the month of April. If you get to know that you failed in an exam or two, don't panic. You'll have compartment exams mostly by the end of June, the same year. By the end of July, you'll get your results. Even if you clear your compartment exam, that would be fine to get into any engineering college/university as the engineering classes would ideally start in the month of July/August. In states like Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, admissions process will be going on in the month of August and the classes would start at the end of August of in the month of September. So, analyse the situation and make sure you clear your exam.
