The degree of Bachelors in Mass Media aka mass communication or journalism and mass communication gives a foundation to the skill sets and knowledge to enter the media careers. There are specialisations offered through B.Sc and other technical degrees in the domain of mass media only where you may get more of direction and film-making learning. However, I am on one to say that the degree of BMM is less capable of taking you to accomplish your dream of becoming a film director. I shall suggest and share that a specialisation will always be needed. The course of film-making and production or degrees done from institutes like FTII or Whistling Woods or from AAFT or IIMC have the potential to lead you to the aim you are pursuing. Go ahead and don't stop from doing the course that you are determined to. My advise would be to choose a good institution where film-making is preferred.

Bachelor of Mass media will not help you to become a film director as such, but will give you a foundation for it. You will be able to understand how television productions are made, how camera and lighting techniques work, how documentaries are produced, what all it takes to make a commercial video and so on. BMM will basically lend you a window to understand the basics of a video production. But obviously this is not enough to become a film director. You will need to pursue a post graduate course in direction from a film making school to understand the process thoroughly. The course will familiarize you with every aspect of direction and film making and prepare you to be a successful professional. You can apply for a Diploma in direction in the following colleges: 1. Film and Television Institute of India, Pune 2. Whistling Woods International, Mumbai 3. Satyajit Ray Films And Television Institute, Kolkata 4. Asian Academy Of Film And Television, Noida 5. Zee Institute Of Media Arts (ZIMA), Mumbai

Mass Communication would be of little help unless you're wanting to get into Cinematography or Editing. Well, the chances of having a success in the line of acting are great nowadays with so many TV Serials being made. There is no specific age since actors of all ages are required in this industry, in fact, even children are able to work in this industry. Getting a chance for a non-professional is very low. Rarely would a face appeal so much to a director that he would be happy to invest all his time and energy to train an actor. A producer loses money with such directors, so unless the actor is a relative or some star-child no one would take him. And no other industry takes non-professionals so why should this industry do so. There are a few approaches to become an actor/ director, you can join theatre and be an actor of course. Direction comes later after you are able to perform as an actor. But if you want to join films, then you have to face more competition. So choose accordingly.
