I think that it is never useful that way. You need to economize on time, as you are young. You can appear for CAT, but do additional work.

CAT is a competitive exam as you should take a preplanned schedule to crack it, without plan and hard work you cannot crack that much easily.

No, it will not hamper your chances. Prepare well for CAT & get into a reputed college. In between, you can also get some work experience if possible. That will be best for you. All the best.
