POSSIBLE inventor of this TERM and one of its first proponents was Howard Rheingold, who created one of the first major Internet communities, called "The Well."In his book, The Virtual Community, Rheingold defines virtual communities as. "social AGGREGATIONS that emerge from the Internet when enough people carry on public discussions long enough and with sufficient human feeling to form webs of personal relationships in cyberspace". 1. Mediated Community: Mediated communication or mediated interaction (less often, mediated discourse) refers to communication CARRIED out by the use of information communication technology and can be contrasted to face-to-face communication. While nowadays the technology we use is often related to computers, giving rise to the popular term computer-mediated communication, mediated technology need not be computerized as writing a letter using a pen and a piece of paper is also using mediated communication. 2. International Community:The international community is a vague and subjective phrase used in geopolitics and international relations to refer to a nebulous group of people and governments of the world. It does not literally refer to all nations or states in the world. 3. Internet Community: An ONLINE community, also called an internet community or web community, is a virtual community whose members interact with each other primarily via the Internet. For many, online communities may feel like home, consisting of a "family of invisible friends".Therefore, virtual community is a group of people formed through web based interaction.
