A software program that supports multiple instant messenger protocols in ONE program. Gaim allows users to USE one program to talk over AIM, ICQ, MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, JABBER, and other instant messenger networks. However, unlike some of its competitors, gaim also supports multiple platforms, enabling it to work on the Windows, Linux, BSD, and macOS X operating systems.
In 2007, as a response to a legal issue and to APPEASE AOL, the Gaim program had its name changed to Pidgin.
