TIGER reserve in 1956.Simlipal Bioreserve is a part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve(2009).It is located in the northern part of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district. Simplipal biosphere reserve area 4,374 sq. km. and 845 sq. km. forest (tiger reserve), 2,129 sq km buffer area. Biosphere reserves are established by countries and recognized under UNESCO Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme to promote sustainable development based on local community efforts.The program of Biosphere Reserve was initiated by UNESCO in 1971.The first biosphere reserve of the world was established in 1979, since then the network of biosphere reserves has increased to 631 in 119 countries across the world.In Madhya Pradesh, Panna Tiger Reserve has been UNESCO's Biosphere Reserves.
