Government has allocated over 756 crore rupees under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles, FAME scheme till June this year. The main objective of the scheme is to encourage Faster adoption of Electric and hybrid vehicle by way of offering upfront incentive on purchase of Electric vehicles and establishing a necessary charging Infrastructure for electric vehicles. The scheme, launched in 2015, is aimed at addressing the issue of environmental pollution and fuel security.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Heavy Industries Krishan Pal Gurjar in a written reply in Rajya Sabha yesterday. Under Phase-1 and 2 of the scheme, about three lakh 71 thousand Electric and hybrid vehicle were supported with total incentive of around 634 Crore rupees as on 28th July this year.
