" He works hard so that he will PASS", this should be changed.
The sentence has many problems:-
NO.1 : The first problem is that no context .Assuming he is studying for a test, and that may be correct.
NO.2: The verbs in a sentence should not change tense.
Works = present tense
Will pass = future tense
This is an error. Its not logically PROPER.

b- He works hard to /make sure/guarantee that he passes.
