HASTINGS.Ring FENCE PolicyThe aim of this policy was to defend the neighbor's frontiers in order to safeguard the British territories.Thus, buffer ZONES were created to defend the Company's frontiers.The states that were brought under the policy were given assurance of military support, but they had to bear the cost of the army themselves.WARREN HASTINGSHe BECAME the Governor-General (1772-1785) at the time when the British rule was to encounter the powerful combination of Maratha, Mysore, and Hyderabad.He thus adopted this policy which got reflected in his wars against the Marathas and Mysore.Afghans and Marathas were the main dangers to the Company.
