1949. In 1949 the Govt. of India constituted the Central Gaushala Development Board with the object of coordinating the activities of gaushalas.A few years later (in 1952), the Board was replaced by the Central Council of Gosamvardhana. This was an 'autonomous' BODY but completely under the administrative control of the Central Government. Central Government decided to DISSOLVE the Central Council of Gosamvardhana. With effect from the 1st of December, 1969 the Central Council was dissolved and its work entrusted to State and Central Government agencies.Rashtriya Gokul Mission:Rashtriya Gokul Mission comprises of two components namely:The national program for bovine breeding and National mission for bovine productivity.Underlying OBJECTIVES of the Mission:Development and conservation of indigenous breeds in a focused and scientific manner.Undertake breed IMPROVEMENT program for indigenous cattle breeds so as to improve the genetic makeup and increase the stock.Enhance milk production and productivity.Distribute disease-free high genetic merit bulls for natural service.
