I'm implementing my version of a Buffered Reader using a smart pointer but I'm getting this error: Access violation reading location 0x00000000.. Here's the code:

class BufferedReader
{
private:
    std::iostream inputStream;
    size_t _read;
    const size_t _buffSize;
    std::unique_ptr<char []> _buffer;
 public:
    BufferedReader::BufferedReader(std::iostream&& is) : inputStream(std::move(is)), _read(0),
        _buffSize(4096), _buffer(new char[_buffSize]){};

    BufferedReader& BufferedReader::read(char* buf, size_t n){
    auto _left = _buffSize - _read;
    if(_read == 0){
        inputStream.read(_buffer.get(), _buffSize); // here's where the access violation is coming from
    }
    // do other stuff
    return *this;

}
