I'm currently a high school frosh learning UNIX commands. Is there a way to combine these two into a single script-> (tail log files and gzip it after)?

tail messages dmesg secure && tar -zcf log.tar.gz messages dmesg secure

Or if you are wanting to only tar the output of tail;

tail messages dmesg secure > log.txt && tar -zcf log.tar.gz log.txt
