Tens of thousands of Iraqi artifacts were looted after the war from remote areas in Iraq, and many sites continue to be ransacked, a group of American experts said yesterday. .... Perhaps more damaging than the loss of museum antiquities is the loss of artifacts from remote sites not yet catalogued and studied.

On April 15, the U.S. Army signed a cease-fire permitting the MEK to keep its weapons and use them against Iranian regime infiltrators into Iraq. This deal infuriated the State Department, which then convinced the president to undo it, leading to the strange sight of U.S. troops surrounding MeK camps on May 9, disarming its fighters and taking up positions to protect them.

So desperate is the Left for some sign of true socialism, it overlooks such pesky details. Instead, it warily admires al Qaeda, the Taliban and militant Islam in general for doing battle with the United States. The Left tries to overlook militant Islam's slightly un-socialist practices - such as its imposing religious law, excluding women from the workplace, banning the payment of interest, encouraging private property and persecuting atheists.
कोई आसानी से संकेतित कर सकता है कि आत्मघाती अपहर्ता पृथ्वी के असन्तुष्ट राज्यों के प्रतिनिधित्व करते हैं और उनका लक्ष्य समाजवाद नहीं वरन् उग्रवादी इस्लाम है। वामपंथी वास्तविक समाजवाद के थोड़े से भी संकेत के लिए इस कदर व्याकुल हैं कि ऐसे अक्रोशी विवरणों की अवहेलना कर रहे हैं। इसके बजाय इसने अमेरिका से युद्ध करने के लिए अल-कायदा, तालिबान और सामान्य तौर पर उग्रवादी इस्लाम की प्रशंसा की। वामपंथियों ने उग्रवादी इस्लाम की गैर समाजवादी आदतों जैसे धार्मिक कानून को थोपना कार्यस्थल से महिलाओं को निकालना, ब्याज के पैसे पर प्रतिबन्ध , व्यक्तिगत धन को प्रोत्साहन और नास्तिकों के उत्पीड़न की अवहेलना कर डाली।

| 9. | Then came the news, at first blush dismaying, that ex-Major General Jassim Mohammed Saleh al-Dulaimi, 49, a Fallujah native and reportedly a relative of Saddam Hussein, is heading the Fallujah Protective Army, a brand-new Iraqi force working with the coalition to help avoid a confrontation between it and insurgents in Fallujah. Consisting of 1,100 volunteers, mostly disgruntled former officers and enlisted soldiers from the Fallujah region, it is tasked with staffing checkpoints and theoretically reports to the U.S. Marines. As Mr. Saleh took command on April 30, the stocky general with a Saddam-style mustache wore his Saddam-era uniform, complete with maroon beret. In a scene broadcast across Iraq, he shook hands with Marine commanders and had the old Iraqi flag raised, to the cheers of onlookers. He set the tone immediately by declaring an intent to impose security and stability in Fallujah “without the need for the American army, which the people of Fallujah reject.”
