Britain is the most alienated country, as symbolized by the plaintive government program, “ ICONS - A Portrait of England ,” that lamely hopes to rekindle patriotism by connecting Britons to their “national treasures” such as Winnie-the-Pooh and the miniskirt. विरासत का भाव- प्राय: जिसे राजनीतिक दृष्टि से सही होना माना जाता है वह मेरी दृष्टि में यूरोपवासियों का अपनी सभ्यता से अलग होना है और उनका सोचना कि उनकी ऐतिहासिक संस्कृति ऐसी नहीं है कि उसके लिये संघर्ष किया जाये या उसे बचाया जाये। इस विषय पर यूरोप के परस्पर मतभेद को भी देखा जा सकता है। सभ्यता के कम विलगाव से ग्रस्त देश फ्रांस है जहाँ राष्ट्रीयता अब भी विद्यमान है और फ्रांसीसी अपनी पहचान पर अभिमान रखते हैं। ब्रिटेन अपनी सभ्यता से विलगाव रखने वाला सबसे बड़ा देश है। जैसा कि ब्रिटेन सरकार के कार्यक्रम Icon- A Portrait of England के द्वारा ब्रिटिशवासियों को मूल्यों से विनी द पू और छोटे स्कर्टों के माध्यम से जोड़ा जा रहा है जो शायद ही उनमें राष्ट्रवाद की भावना जगा सके।
