Polished stone axes and adzes appeared in Bohemia first in the Early Neolithic with the LBK Culture. For the first farming communities, stone axes were of extraordinary importance. Since extensive deforestation made available initial areas for agricultural food production, polished stone tools used for clearance became true symbols of domestication.
