Put x in the ratio

Now

• Present age of Ram is 8x
• Present age of Rehman is 9x

After 5 years

• Age of Ram will be 8x + 5
• Age of Rehman will be 9x + 5

Also

• After 5 years ratio of their ages will be 9 : 10

According to QUESTION :-

⇒ 8x + 5/9x + 5 = 9/10

⇒ 10 (8x + 5) = 9 (9x + 5)

⇒ 80x + 50 = 81x + 45

⇒ 50 - 45 = 81x - 80x

⇒ x = 5

Now

• Present age of Ram = 8x = 8(5) = 40 years
• Present age of Rehman= 9x = 9(5) = 45 years

Hence, the present ages of Ram and Rehman are 40 and 45 years respectively.
