Hi: I have deleted a particular program in XP, but its entry REMAINS in the "Add-Remove Programs" listing in Control Panel and will not let me remove it...I have tried looking everywhere...Is there a way to delete this useless entry? Thanks a lot...
Steve in Kansasthe simpistic advice would be to restart, but you might have done that already.
Just asking, but is there actually a reason that it would need to be deleted? if the ACTUAL program is gone, why would it be important to remove the name?Download Ccleaner
(During install, uncheck the Yahoo Toolbar option).
Open Ccleaner and select the 'Tools Button'.Well, tried CCleaner...Got rid of a lot of crap, but still have the program listing...The reason I want to get rid of it is because from time to time it appears and TRIES to install itself...Get an error message...I cancel out the error message and can go on with WHATEVER program I was trying to start...For example; If I try to open a file directly in Word (.doc) this program will come up and try to install itself...After I clear the error messages my desired program runs as normal...Apparently something is looking for an .msi file...I have searched for *.msi to no avail...CCleaner says it cannot delete an .msi...This is really gettin frustrating! Any more ideas are welcome...
Steve in KansasWhat is this mystery program? You still haven't said. Do you think it could be important?Nope, it's not important and it's not a mystery...An old program from Abacus Software for Flight Simulator..."Civil Air Patrol"...Just won/t go away! Try this.... Its FREE and works very good at removing software that wont budge safely from Karen's Software Tools
http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptpruner.aspOr Tweak UI for XP from the MS engineering team...Well, when all else failed, I downloaded the program again, installed it, and then UNINSTALLED it...Fixed! Thanks for all of the suggestions...Found a couple of programs that I didn't know existed...
SteveIn the meantime you have added a few great tools to your arsenal ! !
Glad yer fixed up and stop by anytime...
