It is a nitroamine explosive widely used in military and industrial applications. It was developed as a more powerful explosive than TNT and was widely used in World War II. It can be started by friction, impact and temperature. The name RDX was coined by the British. Relatively safe and inexpensive to manufacture, RDX was produced on a large scale in the United States through a secret process developed in the United States and Canada.
