MBA in field operations is one of the best value additions that an engineer can have in his career. Being an engineer myself who decided to pursue PGDM in operations and supply chain management from SP Jain Institute of Management and Research. I can strongly correlate to your dilemma and can assure you that it could be one of the best decisions of your career. MBA in operations management gives you the ability to think beyond the detailed technicalities that engineering teaches. It teaches you to look at the operational feasibility of the product that you are envisioning and develops products based on the set of optimization techniques that can be used to manufacture the products efficiently. In terms of placement, there is a huge demand of people from operations and supply chain management in various industries like FMCG, Consulting, etc. So, be assured while opting for a career in operations management that you will get enough opportunities to showcase your knowledge and skills.

In Supply chain management, it involves procurement, manufacturing, inventory control, transportation, logistics etc. In operation Management it involves Supply chain management, manufacturing science, etc. So, both are technology sound. Subject and engineering background can be able to cope with more sound knowledge of the background and if you are an engineer, you are sounder to the subjects like:- Manufacturing Thermodynamics Kinetic Processing Production So, these are the main aspect of the Supply chain. So, if you already know about the main subjects, you will be able to understand them easily. The following are the job profile available for Operation and Supply chain management:- Logistics manager Supply chain. Manager Operation manager Executive The salary ranges from about 5 lakh to about 10 lakh per annum in the beginning and can grow up to highest level.
