A general trend is to prefer an engineering stream but in an AICTE approved, preferably accredited institute affiliated to a reputed university or an institute of national importance. Again it depends on where you wish to see yourself after the completion of the programme. Maybe, you prefer to see yourself as a system analyst or a programming expert, MCA is not bad at all. It is possible to do a Ph.D. after the completion of your Masters degree and the clearance of NET or equivalent.

Pursuing BCA+MCA from a good college or even pursuing BCA from a good college is far better than doing B.Tech+M.Tech (CSE) from an average college. It improves career prospects.

Admission for Ph.D. at NCU The admission into the Doctor of Philosophy Programme is done twice in a year, i.e., in November- December and in June-July by holding an admission test followed by personal interview. NET/GATE/JRF/SLET qualified students are exempt from admission test. Ph.D. is offered in the school of Engineering and Technology (engineering, physics, chemistry, math, and English), School of Management (SOM) for Ph.D. in Management, and School of Law (SOL). Preference is given to outstanding students, who have qualified for the Doctor of Philosophy Program through any National Level Test like CSIR-UGC NET or GATE. A candidate can apply online or offline. For applying offline, the candidate can download the application form from the website of NCU or can obtain it from the university campus up to the last date for submission of forms specified in the Admission Notice.

Ph.D after B.Tech+M.Tech is much better than MCA. Ph.D in Engineering is much better than Ph.D after computer application.
