Mechanical engineering is the discipline that applies the principles of engineering, physics, and materials science for the design, analysis, manufacturing and maintenance of mechanical systems. It is the branch of engineering that involves design, production and operation of machinery. It is one of the oldest and broadest of the engineering disciplines. It is an evergreen branch with no cyclic trend in job market. Mechanical engineers are employed in both operations and maintenance roles in manufacturing and services industry. Mechanical engineers work in companies in design and KPOs in engineering designing. Mechanical engineers can join Indian Engineering Services, DRDO, ISRO, Defence and paramilitary forces. Mechanical engineers are also employed in teaching and R&D, besides working as independent consultant. Mechanical engineers are also eligible for jobs in state, central government, PSU and public sector banks, where eligibility criteria is graduation degree. Mechanical engineers are also eligible after specialization in Master’s degree or PG Diploma to work as aeronautical, marine, automobile and environmental engineers.
