In my opinion, if you pass CCNA, you have a good chance of becoming a field technician, say you have a good score in engineering degree and have none of these certifications, you can still end up as a programmer in good companies. These certifications are good to have, CCIE being one of the toughest and ranks higher in this ladder will even make you a designer for major networks that are the backbone of the internet. It is not necessary to acquire these certifications if you want to be a programmer (it is good to have them though). If you want to design a network, troubleshoot network, act as a consultant in a networking company, it is must to have these.
