Basically, it depend on you which kind of work you want to go for. If you want to go for mechanical engineering, then you can go for it, but from my opinion there is good career scope and increment in civil engineering field. You can start your own work after graduation, and also get some high opportunities after qualifying GATE.

Go For Civil Engineering. This field has wide scope. A few good colleges are: DTU, BITS College of Engineering Pune Lovely Professional University Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology Chennai, Vellore Institute of Technology P. S. G. It totally depends on your subject of interest. Firstly, you have to find which field you are interested in, although both the branches have wide scope.

Well, it depends upon your pursuit. Both the stream goes through field work. Both streams will give you the opportunity to work in top PSU (public sector) through GATE exam and top leading companies also. In civil, you will get deep learning about the material sciences whereas mechanical is more manufacturing process oriented. Select one which matches your interest.
