Computer Science and Engineering from UPES is one of the best in the country, and far better than mechanical engineering from MIT. I know this because I know an alumnus of UPES and have been placed in one of the top MNCs with a really good package. The best part is their faculty, industrial visits and specialised programs with support from best tech giants in the world.

Mechanical engineering, any day. It's a traditional engineering branch that has promising career options. UPES is far ahead of VIT in terms of faculty and placement. Also, the campus is cool and is situated in the hills. I'd suggest you go for mechanical engineering especially if you are interested in machines and a better career.

VIT has an excellent curriculum in CSE. Its course outline of teaching Foreign Language, English spoken and mainly focuses on the real subjects that actually matters in an individual's engineering life is excellent. Actually, it is a matter that almost every college teaches those subjects too which will not be useful in his/her future. But VIT doesn't have this policy. Faculties are very experienced also. Placements are very good since India's Silicon Valley is beside Vellore. College infrastructure is excellent with its huge campus. On the other hand, UPES mechanical sector is also very good. It comes in those branches of UPES which maintains its placement, course outlines the placement scenario as neither too low nor too high. So overall CSE from VIT is a nice choice.
