Okay, so 10th grade is honestly going to be the easiest out there, provided you are regular.

And trust me, instead of thinking about 10th class as only a time where you'd have to work your head off only to get a 10 CGPA on your report card , think about 10th grade as a time to learn all those cool and awesome things you've always wanted to learn..

P.S : Trigonometry is one of them!

10th grade is also gonna be one of the best times in your life, and trust me on this one, YOU ARE GOING TO MISS YOUR 10TH CLASS , specially if you're planning to join a different school/ college. So don't forget to enjoy it and cherish the memories you'll form :)

Coming to academics, 10th grade science is pretty awesome. Try being naturally curious and trust me you'll lovee learning science bcuz its so cool!

For bio, practice your diagrams well, even when you don't have exams. Read every single word of your NCERT thoroughly. DON'T MUG UP, just READ. Read as if you're reading a book full of the coolest facts about the living world out there. Just make sure you don't miss a single “fact” :)

Heredity and Evolution is an awesome chapter but you find a lot of general and vague questions from that one. For that, read that chapter specially well. Ask your teacher for further guidance. ABSOLUTELY NO NEED OF ANY REFERENCE BOOK.

Now, Chemistry! To be honest, chem is the easiest of all the 3 science subjects and scoring good wasn't a problem. You're gonna have some VERY COOL chapters like carbon and compounds (aka the very basics of organic chem; bonus for you if you're taking sci after 10th :) and periodic table. Do carbon and compounds really well, it lays the foundation for orgo. Keep reading your ncert regularly. Again, JUST READING is the key. Don't mug.

Coming to physics, 10th grade physics is actually easier than 9th grade. However, in my school, we had a very shitty physics teacher who could not (or rather would not) teach properly at all. So, while most of my classmates trooped to tuitions and coaching classes to properly learn physics, i did not. I simply bought a book- Lakhmir Singh and manjit kaur for physics and scored pretty awesome on every test :)

Its a great book which explains concepts from chapters like ELECTRICITY and LIGHT better than NCERTs. Icing on cake: the HOTs( Higher Order Thinking Skills Questions) are not to be found in the NCERT and they're really cool :) However, if you have a good enough physics teacher, buying any book is not required AT ALL. Buy only if your teacher isn't great or if you're too weak at physics.

For Boards, do your science practical book really well. Entire section dedicated to practical based questions. Also, pay attention during practical classes in labs. They help :)

Okay, so 10th grade Math is AWESOME!!

[ It has trigonometry + some of the coolest geometry chapters and you also get introduced to a new solid figure- Frustum of a cone!(after years of doing the same old boring solids in volume and surface area) . What else do you need?! :)]

The key here is REGULAR PRACTICE. And when i say that, i mean every day.Nope, not a single day without math. Its about to be your BFF in the next few months :). Do all the solved examples of NCERT, exercises and optional exercises.

After you finish NCERT, you MUST do R.D SHARMA. It is like The Bible for 10th grade math. Start early and practice daily , you'll ace it ;)

10th grade English is pretty easy. For chapters like Rime of Ancient Mariner and Julius Caeser, make timelines in your own handwriting. Knowing what happens after what makes the literature part so much easier already. Also , pay attention while your teacher explains the chapters. :)

For creative writing part, read a lot and write a lot. Read the NEWSPAPERS. Everyday. You may be asked to write letter to editor/ articles etc based on current events. So read the newspapers. Also,practice writing short stories if you can. Plenty of writing prompts available on the net. Thats the only way to improve your writing skills.

For the grammar part, you could buy a CBSE grammar practice book, but only if you're really weak at grammar. I was personally quite strong at English, and we had a great teacher, so i didn't need any books. PRACTICE is again very essential for grammar.

Coming to social science, NCERT is KEY. SST is probably the subject , along with math which requires max. time and hardwork on your part. I made it easier for myself by reading my NCERT books regularly , not trying to memorise everything in a day, and spreading out my learning lessons over many days. Economics is pretty fascinating and so is Democratic politics. They're easier to learn as well. For Geo, you HAVE to memorise well, no other choice, bcuz the chapters are quite technical. For history, again , MAKE TIMELINES. Specially for the chapter with indian history and the vietnam french war chapter. Making short (very short ) timelines, is important bcuz the sequence of events , (in indian history specially is important ). Overall, if you enjoy social, there's plenty to learn from 10th grade, bcuz Its as awesome as it gets!

P.S: I didn't have Hindi for 10th, I had French instead , so couldn't help with Hindi.

So basic summary: ENJOY WHAT YOU LEARN, BE CURIOUS, WATCH VIDEOS , MAKE NOTES, SHARE WHAT YOU KNOW, AND PRACTICE REGULARLY, WORK HARD, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY CHILLAX AND ENJOY! 10th grade is beautiful! You'll ace it !

Its been years since I passed my board exams. I am sure a lot has changed in the syllabus and pattern. My suggestions are, hence meant for the art of reading rather than the pin pointed exam preparation.

1. Read, Revise and multiple times revise your school class notes. Otherwise it is as good as waste. It will remain in your notebook, wont make a place in your mind.
2. After every day of school, when you are revising your notes, add important points from standard text book which were missed in the class. Keep this regular. In the end, you wont have to refer to your book. You will have concise notes of yourself.
3. Then comes the most important step if you want to score high. Thats practicing questions and tests. As far as memory and scoring is concerned nothing else will give you as much dividend as this step. Once you are done with your revision (say 3–4 times) and compilation, do not keep on mugging. Switch to answering. That will do the work of 5 revisions in one go.
4. Get your answers reviewed by your teachers. In our minds we have done our work once we have recalled all the information. But its not just information, its structuring of the information. Your teachers will help you in this. This will do the work of captivating the examiner till the end of your answer.
5. Work on your handwriting. That hits in the very beginning and gives a good impression. It should be neat, legible and aligned. Do not overwrite. If you think you will be doing this straight in the examination hall, that ain’t gonna happen. You will have to make them a part of your personality.
6. Practice including diagrams and flowcharts in your answers. Make the job easier for the examiner by serving your points on an easy platter.

On a broader panel, some words of wisdom from my experience:

Boards are supposed to be your entry into the age of competition. Therefore it seems like it is a break or make exam. There are expectations and hence the fear of loss. That leads to depressions and in extreme cases suicide attempts.

But let me tell you while it is a stepping stone, it is definitely not life changing. You will get plenty of chances in life. Hence do not make it a marks bandwagon. Study smart for marks. But study from the heart to learn forever.

At this stage you should fall in love with concepts in geometry, trigonometry, algebra; you should flirt with chemistry and apply physics in daily life. Literature should become your doors for wisdom and language for daily communication. History should teach you that nothing is permanent and that we should learn from our past to build our future rather than being a prisoner of past. And geography will highlight the beauty in mother earth.

This is a time to study in coherence for after boards your area of studies will get more and more narrow and deep. Therefore prepare yourself for an interesting journey. Spend time with friends. Help each other in understanding concepts. Ask questions to your teacher. Develop awareness of general knowledge. Develop self confidence.

Mathematics- The FEAR of most of the indian students.Dear friends, its not tough at all. Infact it is the only subject in which you are guaranteed a good score if you have worked for it. I also feared mathematics 2 years back and that cost me my grades in SA1. Students don't score good marks in maths because most of them prepare for this subject like any other subject - read theory, solve numericals and its over.Friends, maths demands practice, practice and practice. Eventually I realised this and my grades significantly improved in the Boards i.e SA2.

NOW coming to the preparation strategy:-

The question paper setters are obsessed with one book RD SHARMA. Not the complete book, its not required. Just solve the solved examples at least twice and you will be able to solve 80% questions in the exam. For 100% you must solve NCERT book 2–3 times.

For SCIENCE

No extra book required here.NCERT contains everything. Nothinng will come out of that but i will advice you to to buy a book called Xamidea and solve it during the last 1–2 months of preparation.

For ENGLISH

Very easy. Literature part is nothing. Just focus on your writing skills and vocabulary. Use wise words in writing answers and you will be through. Don't write too long answers.

For SOCIAL SCIENCE

Buy a book called ALL IN ONE SOCIAL SCIENCE by arihant. Its a very nice book and contains revision sheets and brain maps. Read this book completely before exams. But few days before the exam, don't touch any other book, just read NCERT again and again and again and again…….

For HINDI/SANSKRIT

I don't have idea about sanskrit as i was a hindi student but according to my friends some sample papers and school books are enough.

For hindi,just read the story once patiently and go to the exam. Don't forget to see previous year question papers. Use a book ‘Golden Hindi’ for extra preparation if you want to be completely assured for above 90.

Well, as I have recently given the 2017–18 Board Exams, I am eligible for answering this question.

So let's begin.

Don't take the board exams to be something very hard. If you manage time properly, you will be able to score awesome.

Let me tell one thing.. People find those subjects hard which they have not studied properly. Now to your question:

• Study Everyday: Well, it might appear to be very hurtful but it is actually the truth. I hadn't properly studied during the beginning of X considering it to be easy. And in the end, I had to study rigorously and it was a tough time. However, I gave my board exams amazingly. But that was mere luck. Listen to me. Whenever you come from school, go through the notes that were taught. If you have any doubts, mark them and ask the teacher the next day. If you aren't satisfied then research on your own from the Internet (which I always used to do as I was shy and very self-contained and was not able to ask teachers.)
• Make a proper routine. IF YOU CAN MANAGE YOUR TIME PROPERLY, YOU WILL BE RELAXING. At the end of the session, you will find that you could complete all your syllabus in time.
• Do not Procastinate. Don't ever think to do things afterwards. Do it then and then. Procastinating is the biggest ever obstacle to your success in Class 10.
• Sleep properly. It is very important for you to have a good sleep. Your mind needs refreshment right? As I had procastinating and not done things in time, at the end I had to wake up night after night and study.
• Do not study at one go. Your brain is not a machine. It cannot remember and learn everything at once. Go through the topics with breaks and enjoy.
• Don't leave one topic after learning it. This is the biggest mistake. If you have gone through a chapter and don't go through for day after day, it is very probable that you will forget parts of it.
• Don't mug up. Until 9, it can be strategic if you mugged up topics. But 10 is such an area where mugging up things would never help. I thank God that I never understood topics until I went through them thoroughly.
• Pinpoint your weaknesses and try to work after them. Work daily and create checkpoints. When you reach a checkpoint, reward yourself.
• Complete the topics by a certain time.(Which I had done)
• At the end of the session, when you have completed all the topics, practise sample papers, last year question papers and don't have a peek at your book during that time. Try to complete the paperwork within the required time. If you have completed it within the time limit, reduce the time limit and try to finish the paper. Again when you have finished it, reduce the time limit and try to finish. This would help you to write all the answers very fast and in the exam hall, it will fetch you more time to revise. This would also help to recall facts much faster.

Now to the books you should use according to my experience:

1. For maths, I would seriously recommend to go for RD Sharma. It is the best book I have ever gone through. It explains all the topics in the best way possible and try to go through it repeated times if you don't understand topics. You could also buy RS Agarwal but I don't think it will help much. It just lists topics in a short way whilst RD Sharma explains them. However, for the first chapter that is Real Numbers, you could go with RS Agarwal as it has methods which are shorter.
2. For Social Science,(which was the subject that I just didn't like) you should strictly follow NCERT. As a support book, you could buy Arihant All-in-One. It just lists all the facts from NCERT in a short way. Sometimes, it may omit some facts which it did in Novels Chapter and at the same time, it also contains some grammatical mistakes as well. So while reading All In One, you should also go through NCERT.
3. For English, you could go for All in One again. The English version has less grammatical mistakes. It also has sample papers which you could practise. For further grammar understanding, you could buy Wren and Martin. For the literature part, read both All in One and NCERT(at least once, completely in the beginning).
4. If you have your second language to be Hindi(which I had) you could go for Golden which is a very good guide book for the thing. However, some grammar concepts may not be listed in it. In that case, you could also buy Full Marks(Vyakaran Pravesh) with it. I don't know about other subjects.
5. For Science, I woul seriously recommend you to divide it into Bio, Chem and Phy and then consult these books: HC Verma's Foundation Science Physics, Foundation Science Chemistry and Dinesh Bio. For chemistry, you must also go through the NCERT BOOK.
6. If you have computers as your subject, (which I had) go for All in One once again(even though I didn't buy it). What I did was researching in the Internet, downloading tutorials and other things. There are actually two computer subjects one is FIT and the other Computer Science. I had FIT and it had HTML as a chapter. What I did for that was I bought a book named HTML and CSS a beginners Guide from Thomas E. Powell. But beware, it is a very very advanced book. And out of syllabus too. I liked computers way more than any other subject and didn't consider it to be just a subject. So with that book, I researched online as well. It also has CSS Explaination and that Explaination is better than the HTML part but CSS wasn't in the syllabus though. So it is better to avoid such things and buy All in One as I had seen one of my friends having it and when I read it, it did contain some extra parts but all was good.

So If you follow all these things, then it is very sure that you can get an awesome result in your Class 10 Board Exams.
