I am doing some research about the Tape Backups for Enterprises especially LTO as it is commonly use standard now days. Going through the process of writing the data to the tape I would need some explanation.
First LTO tape is divided into different bands (4). In case of LTO 1 it would have 8 heads to write and 8 heads to read. Now are those 8 heads operate simultaneously and write 8 tracks in one direction (1 band) and when tape is coming back again it is writing 8 tracks in opposite direction but second band. Coming into LTFS file system and division between data section and index section it will be happening per band if I am understanding correctly.
How different the writing process is from DLT technology.
Thanks, Piter
